Cher, born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946) is an American pop singer-songwriter, actress, director and record producer. She has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards and a People's Choice Award for her work in film, music and television.

Cher began her career at the age of seventeen and came to prominence as one half of the pop rock duo Sonny & Cher with the success of their song "I Got You Babe" in 1965. She subsequently established herself as a solo recording artist, and became a television star in the 1970s with the variety show The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, for which she won a Golden Globe Award. A well received performance in the film Silkwood earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1984. In the following years, Cher starred in a string of hit films including Mask, The Witches of Eastwick, and Moonstruck, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1988.

Cher is the only female solo artist to reach the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100 in each of the previous four decades. Her hit dance single "Believe" is her biggest-selling recording and was the best-selling single of 1999, having sold over 10 million copies worldwide. She holds the Hot 100 record for the longest hit-making career span, with 33 years between the release of her first and most recent #1 singles, in 1965 and 1998. Cher ended her 3-year-long "Farewell Tour" in 2005 as the second most successful tour by a female solo artist of all time.

With a career lasting over 40 years, Cher has sold over 100 million records worldwide. After a three-year hiatus and retirement from touring, Cher returned to the stage in 2008 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas where she is currently performing her show Cher at the Colosseum.

Put on my suede shoes
And I boarded the
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the of the pouring rain

Then I'm walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I feel the way I feel?

Saw the of Elvis on Union Avenue
Followed him up to the of Graceland
I watched him right through

Now security, they not see him
They hovered 'round his tomb
There's a pretty thing waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room

When I was walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I feel the way I feel?

Walking in Memphis (Walking in Memphis)
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale (Walk)
Walking in Memphis (Walking in Memphis)
But do I feel the way I feel?

They got catfish on the
They got in the air
Reverend Green be glad to you
you haven't got a prayer
Boy, you've got a in Memphis

Now Gabriel plays
Every at the Hollywood
And they brought me to see him
They me if I would

Do a little ?
And I with all my might
He said, "Tell me, are you a Christian, ?"
And I said, "Man, I am ."

L 0020: Past Continuous, Parts of The Body & More

Grammar! Veja:

I was cooking dinner last night.
She was listening to music when I arrived.
You were studying when I called you.
Michael and Paul were playing soccer while Jack was watching television.

1. Descrição de ações isoladas:

I was cooking dinner last night.

Neste caso usaremos apenas o past continuous para descrever a ação. Veja que formamos o past continuous do seguinte modo:

to be passado + verbo principal + ing

2. Ação principal interrompida por uma outra ação:

She was listening to music when I arrived.
You were studying when I called you.

Michael and Paul were playing soccer while Jack was watching television.

Para formar as formas negativa e interrogativa usa-se as mesmas regras do verbo to be no passado. Para a negativa acrescenta-se not após o verbo to be, e na interrogativa inverte-se o verbo to be com o sujeito. Veja:

I was cooking last night.
I was not (= wasn't) cooking last night.
Was I cooking last night?

You were listening to music yesterday.
You were not (= weren't) listening to music yesterday.
Were you listening to music last night?

i-Pocket Pod! Você conhece a cantora Kylie Minogue?

Kylie Ann Minogue, OBE (born 28 May 1968) is an Australian pop singer, songwriter, and actress. After beginning her career as a child actress on Australian television, she achieved recognition through her role in the television soap opera Neighbours, before commencing her career as a recording artist in 1987. Her first single, "Locomotion", spent seven weeks at number one on the Australian singles chart and became the highest selling single of the decade. This led to a contract with songwriters and producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman. Her debut album, Kylie (1988), and the single "I Should Be So Lucky", each reached number one in the United Kingdom, and over the next two years, her first 13 singles reached the British top ten. Her debut film, The Delinquents (1989) was a box-office hit in Australia and the UK despite negative reviews.

Initially presented as a "girl next door", Minogue attempted to convey a more mature style in her music and public image. Her singles were well received, but after four albums her record sales were declining, and she left Stock, Aitken & Waterman in 1992 to establish herself as an independent performer. Her next single, "Confide in Me", reached number one in Australia and was a hit in several European countries in 1994, and a duet with Nick Cave, "Where the Wild Roses Grow", brought Minogue a greater degree of artistic credibility. Drawing inspiration from a range of musical styles and artists, Minogue took creative control over the songwriting for her next album, Impossible Princess (1997). It failed to attract strong reviews or sales in the UK, but was successful in Australia.

Minogue returned to prominence in 2000 with the single "Spinning Around" and the dance-oriented album Light Years, and she performed during the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Her music videos showed a more sexually provocative and flirtatious personality and several hit singles followed. "Can't Get You Out of My Head" reached number one in more than 40 countries, and the album Fever (2001) was a hit throughout the world, including the United States, a market in which Minogue had previously received little recognition. Minogue embarked on a concert tour but cancelled it when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. After surgery and chemotherapy treatment, she resumed her career in 2006 with Showgirl: The Homecoming Tour. Her tenth studio album X was released in 2008 and was followed by the KylieX2008 tour. In 2009, she embarked upon her For You, for Me Tour, her first concert tour of the US and Canada.

Although she was dismissed by some critics, especially during the early years of her career, she has achieved worldwide record sales of more than 68 million, and has received notable music awards, including multiple ARIA and Brit Awards and a Grammy Award. She has mounted several successful concert tours and received a Mo Award for "Australian Entertainer of the Year" for her live performances. She was awarded an OBE "for services to music", and an Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2008.
