January brings the snow,
Makes your nose and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings the wind so cold and chill,
Drives the cattle from the hill.

April brings us sun and showers,
And the pretty wildwood flowers.

May brings grass and leafy trees,
Waving in each gentle breeze.

June brings tulips, lilies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.

July brings the greatest heat,
Cloudless skies and dusty street.

August brings the golden grain,
Harvest time is here again.

Warm September brings the fruit,
Sportsmen then begin the shoot.

Brown October brings the last;
Of ripening gifts from summer past.

Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves are falling fast.

Cold December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire, and Christmas treat"

Lembre-se que os months of the year devem ser escritos com letra maiúscula, sempre e em qualquer situação.

Time

Veja:

1. Ler as horas e então os minutos:

02:35 = two thirty-five
04:55 = four fifty-five
11:20 = eleven twenty
12:33 = twelve thirty-three
09:10 = nine ten

Veja:

02:05 = five past two ou five after two
02:10 = ten past two ou ten after two
02:15 = a quarter past two ou a quarter after two
02:20 = twenty past two ou twenty after two
02:25 = twenty-five past two ou twenty-five after two
02:30 = half past two ou half after two
02:35 = twenty-five to three
02:40 = twnety to three
02:45 = a quarter to three
02:50 = ten to three
02:55 = five to three

Para horas inteiras (00), acrescentamos a expressão o'clock. Veja:

03:00 = three o'clock
04:00 = four o'clock
05:00 = five o'clock
12:00 = twelve o'clock

Para meio-dia temos as expressões noon e midday, para meia-noite temos midnight.

As abreviações a.m.

Veja:

03:00 a.m. = three in the morning ou three a.m.
05:00 p.m. = five in the afternoon ou five p.m.
09:00 a.m. = nine in the morning ou nine a.m.

Para se perguntar as horas falamos:

What's the time? ou What time is it?

E respondemos:

It's ...

Veja:

What's the time? / What time is it?
It's three forty-five / a quarter past (ou after) three. (03:45)
It's nine in the evening. (09:00 p.m.)

Grammar! Veja a forma afirmativa:

Singular Plural

I was We were
You were You were
He was They were
She was They were
It was They were

Não há abreviação para a forma afirmativa. Veja a forma negativa:

SingularPlural

I wasn'tWe weren't
You weren'tYou weren't
He wasn'tThey weren't
She wasn'tThey weren't
It wasn'tThey weren't

A forma negativa acima está abreviada. Pode ser usada também na forma normal, acrescentando not após o verbo to be assim como é feito no simple present. Veja:

I was not
You were not
He was not
She was not
It was not
We were not
You were not
They were not

Da mesma forma que é feito no simple present, para formar a interrogativa basta inverter o verbo to be com o sujeito. Veja:

Was I...?
Were you...?
Was he...?
Was he...?
Was it...?
Were we...?
Were you...?
Were they...?

Veja como responder perguntas feitas com o verbo to be no passado.

Were you at school yesterday?

No, I wasn't at school yesterday. I was at the club.

No, he wasn't.
Yes, he was on the beach last weekend.
No, he wasn't on the beach last weekend.

Pay attention! Você se lembra do verbo there to be que significa existir ou haver? Dê uma olhadinha na L 0004. No passado ele também poderá ser usado das mesma forma, mas para o singular você usará there was e para o plural there were, na negativa use there wasn't (there was not) ou there weren't (there were not). Para fazer a interrogativva inverta o to be com a palavra there. Veja:

There was a bird in my bedroom.
There wasn't a bird in my bedroom.
Was there a bird in my bedroom?

There were many people in the parade last weekend.
There weren't many people in the parade last weekend.
Were there many people in the parade last weekend?

i-Pocket Pod!

The Cure are an English rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex in 1976. The band has experienced several line-up changes, with frontman, vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Robert Smith being the only constant member. The Cure first began releasing music in the late 1970s with their debut album Three Imaginary Boys (1979); this, along with several early singles, placed the band as part of the post-punk and New Wave movements that had sprung up in the wake of the punk rock revolution in the United Kingdom. During the early 1980s, the band's increasingly dark and tormented music helped form the gothic rock genre.

After the release of Pornography (1982), the band's future was uncertain and Smith was keen to move past the gloomy reputation his band had acquired. With the 1982 single "Let's Go to Bed" Smith began to inject more of a pop sensibility into the band's music. The Cure's popularity increased as the decade wore on, especially in the United States where the songs "Just Like Heaven", "Lovesong" and "Friday I'm in Love" entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts. By the start of the 1990s, The Cure were one of the most popular alternative rock bands in the world. The band is estimated to have sold 27 million albums as of 2004.The Cure have released thirteen studio albums and over thirty singles during the course of their career.

Assista ao vídeo da música "Friday, I'm in love" da banda The Cure no i-Pocket Pod abaixo, depois ouça a música novamente e enumere as sentenças de acordo com o que você ouvir, depois confira suas respostas.

Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
It's Friday I'm in love
Thursday I don't care about you
I don't care if Monday's blue

It's Friday I'm in love
Oh Thursday doesn't even start
Tuesday Wednesday break my heart
Monday you can fall apart

And Sunday always comes too late
Saturday wait
But Friday never hesitate

I don't care if Monday's black
It's Friday I'm in love
Thursday never looking back
Tuesday Wednesday heart attack

Tuesday Wednesday stay in bed
Monday you can hold your head
It's Friday I'm in love
Oh Thursday watch the walls instead

Saturday wait
Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitate

It's a wonderful surprise
Dressed up to the eyes
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
And just smiling at the sound
Throwing out your frown
Spinning round and round
And as sleek as a shriek

To see you eat in the middle of the night
It's such a gorgeous sight
Always take a big bite
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
I'm in love
 It's Friday
