L 0004: Verb There To Be & Occupations

Grammar! Para falar sobre a existência de algo e assim descrever locais e situações usamos o verbo there to be, no presente o verbo apresenta duas formas, uma para o singular there is e uma para o plural there are. A forma negativa do singular é there is not = there isn't e do plural there are not = there aren't. Veja:

Forma afirmativa / negativa singular

There is a man in the library. / There isn't a man in the library.
There is a girl here. / There isn't a girl here.
There is a dentist near my house. / There isn't a dentist near my house.

Forma afirmativa / negativa plural

There are ten boys in my classroom. / There aren't ten boys in my classroom.
There are six hundred people at the disco club. / There aren't six hundred people at the disco club.
There are thousands of people in Beyoncé's show. / There aren't thousands of people in Beyoncé's show.

Para fazer perguntas usando there to be basta inverter o verbo. Veja:

Is there a good hotel here?
Is there an English school nearby?

Are there many people in your city?
Are there good actors in your country?

Atenção! O verbo there to be expressa existência (existir, haver), tome cuidado com o verbo have, pois ele indica posse (ter). Em alguns casos ambos verbos podem ser usados, mas para evitar misunderstandings (mal entendidos), use-os de acordo com a situação.

Coldplay
While studying at University College London, Martin met Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman. In January 1998, they formed the rock band Coldplay. The band has had internationally recognised fame and success since their debut album, "Parachutes", in 2000. Since then, they have released six further albums/EP's: "A Rush of Blood to the Head", "Live 2003", "X&Y", "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends", "Prospekt's March", and "LeftRightLeftRightLeft".

Solo work
As a solo artist, Martin has written songs for a variety of acts including "Embrace" ("Gravity") and "Jamelia" ("See It in a Boy's Eyes"). Martin has also collaborated with Ron Sexsmith, Faultline, The Streets, and Ian McCulloch. He also sang a part of the vocals for the Band Aid 20 "Do They Know It's Christmas?" at the end of 2004. In 2005, Martin collaborated with Nelly Furtado "All Good Things (Come to an End)", for her 2006 album, "Loose". The two were once rumoured to be a couple, after they both performed at Glastonbury in 2002. Furtado joked about the situation, saying that "Yeah, he's my boyfriend — he just doesn't know it yet".

Martin's fascination with hip hop was shown in the summer of 2006 when he collaborated with rapper Jay-Z for the rapper comeback album "Kingdom Come" after the two met earlier in the year. Martin put some chords together for a song known as "Beach Chair" and sent them to Jay-Z who enlisted the help of hip hop producer Dr. Dre to add the drum line to complete the track. The song was performed on September 27, 2006 by the two during Jay-Z's European tour at Royal Albert Hall. In 2007, Martin appeared on a track titled "Part of the Plan" for Swizz Beatz' debut solo album "One Man Band Man". Martin has also worked on a solo collaboration with Kanye West, with whom he shared an impromptu jam session during a 2006 concert at Abbey Road Studios. He performed the chorus of "Homecoming" of Graduation.

Tell me your

Oh, let's go to the start

Running in
Coming up tails
Heads on the science apart

Nobody said it was
It's such a shame us to part
Nobody said it was
No one ever said it would be hard

Come up to meet you.
Tell you I'm sorry.
Tell you I need you.
Tell you I've set you apart.
Tell me your secrets.
Ask me your questions.
Let's go back to the start.
Take me back to the start.
Do not speak as loud as my heart.
Tell me you love me.
Come back and haunt me.
